Painting With Fire-Masters of Enameling in America, 1930-1980
by Harold B. Nelson and Bernard Jazzar
288 pp.., 279 color illustrations, 9" x 12" soft cover
Publisher: Long Beach Museum of Art

This catalog/book/document traces the development of enameling in the United States during a richly productive period of our history. The authors' effort and perspective informs all of a heritage from within our borders as having importance, even if imported. The perspective is that of one written in three time periods of enameling during the 50 years covered in the catalog. Both Hal and Bernard elected to document a specific time period.

To this end, history in the United States will have a collective reference point that will give evidence for the rest of time. By eliminating jewelry from the context, the art of enameling could be addressed as something more than personal adornment.
